If you thought Elon Musk exhausted his ideas for revolutionizing our lives through technology, think again. Going beyond electric cars, rockets and solar energy, he is now thinking of making electric planes a reality. Yes you heard that right.
In a recent interview with Marketplace Elon Musk shared his vision for future of transport, which would all be powered by electricity including cars, ships and planes (Hyperloop already in construction). He was particularly interested in exploring the idea of electric planes. And he also shared with audience a design idea which would travel at supersonic speeds yet stlll capable of taking-off and landing vertically.
Elon Musk is also fondling with the idea of an airline which would solely run on electricity. And he has already discussed about creation of electric planes when he visited the prestigious Aeronautics and Astronautics Centennial Symposium at MIT last year. For anything, this is a unique idea and first of its kind.
There are countless benefits of using electric planes once they are able to replace the octane guzzling jet engines. Currently planes are among the major contributors to pollution and have greatly depleted the ozone layer. Every ton of cargo moved by plane pollutes the air 4.5 times more than any other transport mode or means, even by sea. Elon Musk’s hands are full with so many projects and several deadlines to meet. But we know Elon Musk well enough to expect that he keeps working on his ideas and does not show them unless they are up for grabs.
