Japanese billionaire, Yusaku Maezawa will be the first SpaceX tourist to orbit the moon, announced Elon Musk on Monday.

The announcement came from SpaceX headquarters in Hawthorne, California where the event was broadcast through SpaceX’s Youtube channel, in the presence of Musk and Maezawa along with an impressive international press covering the event.

The trip will be around 4 to 5 days onboard a to-be developed rocket, named B.F.R. The rocket is expected to be ready by 2023. Ticket price? Millions of dollars. Neither Musk nor Maezawa disclosed the price, however Musk did mention it would be a good boost to finalizing the project.

Maezawa will be inviting other artists to join his voyeur. Together they will work with the SpaceX team to prepare the invitees for the journey. Updates will be announced through a website and social media using #dearMoon.

SpaceX has been a little ambitious with its set timelines, what do you guys think? Sound off in our forums!
