Elon Musk and SpaceX to tackle an “astronomical” nuisance.
With the launch of a fresh batch of Starlink satellites on April 23, SpaceX has extended its lead as the world’s largest private satellite operator. However, astronomers raised concerned about the satellites’ nighttime visibility, which could interfere with their observations. Musk said on April 27 that he intends to address that problem by building a sun visor. According to Space News, SpaceX is developing a prototype of sun visors called “VisorSat”, which will be used to block inbound sunlight from hitting the reflective antennas on the satellites, which will stop them from reflecting sunlight back to Earth.
