Tesla CEO Elon Musk, has made it clear on several occasions that his company’s newest vehicle, the Model 3, is not an evolved version of Model S. In March, he tweeted: ‘’Am noticing that many people think Model 3 is the “next version” of a Tesla, like iPhone 2 vs 3. This is not true.’’

Model 3 is a much rather affordable car – starting at just $35,000 – with full self-driving capability, aluminum, and steel body, coil suspension, an 18” or 19” wheels and finally, optional glass roof.

Musk further illustrated ‘’Model 3 is like a BMW 3 series or Audi A4. Model S is like BMW 5 and 6 series, but much faster, more storage space + Autopilot.’’

The company has published a detailed comparison between its two models’ characteristics to put a stop to the confusion. Tesla started off by declaring that Model S is the company’s flagship car. The premium sedan has more advanced options; customization and displays, as well as higher range and acceleration.

On the other hand, Model 3 targets the mass market as the company’s most affordable vehicle yet. The company said: ‘’Although it will be our newest vehicle, Model 3 is not ‘’Version 3’’ or the most advanced Tesla. Like Model S, it is designed to be the safest car in its class.’’

Model 3 is 184.8 inches long. The car is able to go to 0-60 mph in 5.6 seconds.  It can achieve 215+ miles range. It can seat up to five adults. In addition to being spacious, the car has a 15-inch center touch screen display. However, owners have to pay per use supercharging.

As for Model S, it’s a 196 inches long vehicle with a range of 249-335 miles. Plus, the ability to go from 0-60 mph in 2.3 to 5.5 seconds. The sedan owners enjoy free unlimited supercharging for life.

Model S accommodates five adults and two children with rear facing seats. The vehicle has two digital displays, the driver’s display, and another 17-inch touchscreen.

Model S also has a full self-driving capability, aluminum body, smart air suspension, glass roof or panoramic sunroof, auto-presenting door handles, HEPA filtration system, and 19 or 21 inches performance wheels.
